Permanent, full-time contract with effect from 1st September 2020

The person appointed will be working as part of a team with a senior leader and an Assistant SENCo and will be accountable to the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher and Assistant Headteachers for the progress of SEND students in school. 

Person Specification

The person appointed should:  

  • be an outstanding teacher, who models best practice to colleagues
  • be able to demonstrate positive impact on the progress of SEN students in relation to external benchmarks
  • have relevant SEN qualifications or training (the school will support candidates if further training if required)

Job Description

The post will focus on ensuring that all SEN students have equal access to the curriculum and make good progress. 

  • Maintain a clear vision and strong ethos within the SEN team
  • Work with teachers to evaluate the curriculum to ensure that it promotes equality of access for SEN students and provide training and support for this
  • Ensuring there is a student-focused approach to SEN provision including a robust process for identification of SEN needs, provision of support and regular review of the effectiveness of the support, through liaison with other professionals
  • Monitor the progress of SEN students. Implement and evaluate strategies to address any progress that is not good, following the Assess-Plan-Do-Review model.
  • Ensure that the school is compliant with the SEN Code of Practice and Equalities Act
  • Delegate other duties to staff as appropriate

The Assessment Process will be:                lesson observation (20%) 

in-tray exercise (20%) 

presentation (10%) 

interview panel (50%)
