We take a great deal of pride in our deep links within the local education sector and wider community. We regularly provide equipment, funding and raffle prizes to schools as well as supporting larger projects such as the Racecourse Community Foundation and Once Upon a Smile. Find out more below:
Racecourse Community Foundation
The RCF have a number of core programmes and projects currently in place, engaging with over 15,000 children and young adults every year.
Their vision is to utilise football, other sports and physical activities to improve the health and well being of individuals in Wrexham and North Wales particularly in respect of children and young people, those with disabilities and those disadvantaged and isolated from community activities.
The Excell Supply Education Suite is the base for the RCF, the charity arm of Wrexham Football Club, which aims to use the power of football to bring about positive change to people within the local community. The Suite is used for primary and secondary school visits to the stadium, which forms part of the RCF’s effort to encourage more pupils to get involved in football and exercise. Find out more here.
Projects include; Heart Life, FAW/Sport Wales Disability Programme, Active Schools, FAW Denbighshire Girls and Game on Wrexham.
Once Upon a Smile
Founded in 2011, Once Upon a Smile provide a source of support to families that have lost a child or children that have lost a parent(s) to a long term or terminal illness. They work very closely with Hospitals, Hospices, Schools and Charities and offer support by way of:
Respite Breaks: These breaks can be anything from a family holiday, a weekend away, some daily relaxation or an adventure day. Every break is specifically tailored to the need of each family and designed for the family to spend some valuable time together. Families that have suffered a bereavement are often not looking to book a holiday and this can be for many reasons, often this is a feeling of guilt. Once Upon a Smile understand this and work closely with the family taking each step slowly and sensitively, ensuring they never push a family to accept something they are not yet ready for or not wanting. They have found that families who have taken up the offer of breaks away, no matter which type of break, have stated it has helped them in a number of different ways.
Examples of the breaks they offer: Family Holidays, Parents Spa Weekends, Adventure Holidays or Adventure Days for children such as a visit to a football game, concert or theme park.
